Monster Camp: Spoiler-Free Guide

Introduction

This guide explains how to unlock every ending in the order in which they appear in your Ending listing the in-game gallery, and also goes through general information about the game, drinks, and achievements.

When I list the stats associated with each event, they are in the same order as the choices you're offered.  E.g., if option one is Bold and option 2 is Smart, I'll list [Bold][Smart].  If option 1 is Smart and option 2 is Bold, I'll list [Smart][Bold].  I've hidden them below just in case you'd rather figure it out yourself.  Highlight to read them.

Basics

At the start of the game, you will choose some items to boost your starting stats and you will answer a question to decide which character's 'route' you're on.  Being on a character's route means you will only see events featuring them.  The basic rhythm of the game is to choose a stat-raising activity, which is then followed by a random event.  There are two of these per 'week' followed by a campfire event.  At the campfire event, you can hang out with two of your possible dates and choose to increase your affection for one of them.  You can also choose to sit with Moss Mann and exchange gossip instead of sitting with possible dates.  In my experience, you can successfully take some dates to the meteor shower even if you've chosen to gossip at every opportunity and have not gained any affection with them.   Every other weekend, you'll automatically visit the bar, where you'll be able to choose a drink.

Succeeding or Failing at a Choice

Basically, each of the two choices you're offered during an event will be associated with a stat.  For example, say the first choice is a 'bold' choice and the second is a 'smart' choice.  If your bold stat is higher than your smart stat, choosing the first option will be successful while choosing the second will fail.  If your smart is higher than your bold, then the first option will fail and the second will succeed.  If your bold and smart stats are equal then success or failure is random.

The above is a little more complicated because minimum and maximum success/failure values exist for each week in the game.  Basically, if your Bold and Smart stat were both 6 or above in Week 1, both options would succeed for our hypothetical choice.  If both are below 3 then I suspect both options will fail.  I have not tested this mechanic thoroughly, but in my experience, the maximum values for a short game are 6 in Week 1, 10 in Week 2, and 12 in Week 3.  I haven't been able to fail a stat check with stats above those values,

Special Event Chains

Special event chains are a series of three events that, if successful, lead to a special ending.  Each of the 6 main characters has a random special event chain that can trigger during a run on their route.  Drinking the Flask Genie will trigger a second special event chain for whichever character's run you're on.  Other drinks trigger specific event chains and endings that aren't linked to the 6 main characters.

Because these chains are three events long, you cannot trigger the first event in the sequence if you have less than three events left before the end of the game.  This is why certain drinks aren't available during your final week.  When you trigger an event chain with a drink, the next event you see will always be the first one of the chain.  The last event in a chain will always be the last event you see in that run unless you've failed at one of the previous events in the chain.  The middle event can occur at any time between those two.

Every Event and Every Outcome

There is nothing permanently missable in this game.  If you wanted to try to get every ending without a guide, you could attempt to earn the 'all outcomes' achievement.  This requires seeing every possible outcome of every event.  Monster Camp keeps a list of events and outcomes you've seen in the gallery, though I found I needed to duplicate this information on a spreadsheet so I could check it while in-game.  This is a huge undertaking and it is completely reasonable to write this option off as 'bloody stupid'.  I noted the stats associated with each choice down on my spreadsheet as I found them, but this wasn't really necessary as a spreadsheet listing every stat for every choice, already exists here.  Making my own spreadsheet just made it easier to see at a glance which events I'd encountered, and it kept all the information in one place.

Seeing every event is much, much easier than seeing every outcome, not least because there are far fewer events than outcomes (367 vs 1196).  Plus, some events won't trigger unless you've succeeded at one or more preceding events and at least one event chain per main character is random.  I've found the easiest way to get more events to trigger is to play a 4-player multiplayer game (by yourself) and have each player focus on the same main character.  This forces the game to keep showing you events for that character.  It will not show you the same event twice in one run, so you'll see 16 different events in a short game or 24 in a long game, increasing your chances of seeing one that you haven't seen before.  This is also handy for farming the affection events at the campfire because you can see three at a time.  If you play a long-run solo, you'll see 10 different events.  Alternatively, a two-player long run gives you 20 events, with only two characters to keep track of.  Generally, I would play four-player games when I had many outcomes to find, and single-player games when I only had one or two left.

Stat Raising

The options you choose before an event raise the following stats (highlight to read):

  • Woods: [Smarts]
  • Lake: [Fun]
  • Dome: [Charm]
  • Manor: [Bold]
  • Scout HQ: [Creativity]

A stat will always be raised by +2 unless you've consumed a drink which changes that.

Gossip

Exchanging gossip with Moss Mann involves two choices.  The first sentence you choose determines which stat will be affected.  The second choice determines whether that stat will change by +4, +2, -2, or -4.  This can be useful if you know you need a specific stat to be higher or lower than another for an event that's coming up.  This spreadsheet has a list of which options correspond to which stat.

In your gallery, gossip makes up events 333 to 357.   There aren't multiple outcomes for each of the options you pick, so you only need to see each rumour once to tick them off for the Life Experience (see every outcome) achievement.  The game will show you the rumours in a random order, but it won't show you one you've seen before until you've seen all of them.

Love Log (Multiplayer)

Choosing to sit on the Love Log in a multiplayer game is associated with events 358 to 368.  As with gossip, the game will not show you an event you've seen before until you've seen all of them and there aren't multiple outcomes.  Both players will gain stat boosts from these events.

Drinks

Basically: If you're missing a drink on page 1 of the drinks menu in the gallery, it might be to do with unlocking an event chain.  If you're missing a drink on pages 2, 3, or 4, it might be a drink you can only access in multiplayer mode.

At first, you'll only be able to choose between two drinks - one visible choice or a mystery choice - or play a minigame to select a drink.  The minigame basically involves trying to keep your cursor on the drink you want while other players or the game try to push you off it.  After a while, you'll be able to purchase drinks from the meta-shop in the games main menu using 'memories' you earn as you see more events and outcomes.  Once you've purchased one, those drinks will be available for you to freely choose when you go to the bar.  There are no random factors preventing you from getting those drinks when you need them, though some are locked if you're very early or very late in a playthrough.  For example, most drinks which start a quest aren't available in the final week because they require 3 events and you'll only have 2 left at that point.

Some drinks will only unlock after certain actions or events.  I did not track the details for all of those and apparently, no one else on the internet did either.  You'll be told at the end of a run if a drink is now available, and from then on it will be available in the meta-shop, or Juan might offer it randomly or include it in the mini-game.  I don't think you can avoid unlocking all the drinks if you view every event and outcome.  Even if you don't go that far, I don't think there's many you could avoid if you tried to view every ending and tried for a few of the achievements.  Basically, I don't think you'll end up in a situation where you've got nothing to do except unlock one specific drink.

Drinks that unlock event chains are as follows:

  • Flask Genie
    • Unlocks a special event chain on every main character's route, so 6 in total.
    • I suspect it unlocks when you see your first ending, but I'm not certain.
  • Blender Smoothie
    • Can be drunk in the final week.  Your last two events are then randomly chosen from events 265-272.  Succeed in at least one of those events and then choose not to ask anyone to the meteor shower to unlock Ending 44.
    • This drink unlocks when you've seen the six normal endings, one for each main character.  These are endings 9-14 in your gallery.
    • On a multiplayer game, this drink affects everyone.  This is useful if you're trying to see every outcome because there are eight possible scenes and therefore you are guaranteed to see all of them in a four-player game.
  • Molotov Cocktail
    • Unlocks a special event chain featuring events 242-244.  Succeed in all three and then choose to ask no one to the meteor shower to unlock Ending 15.
    • I'm not sure how this drink unlocks.  I suspect it has to do with viewing some or all of events 55-60.  There is one on each main character's route and they all take place at the dome.
  • Sacred Blood
    • Unlocks a special event chain featuring events 248-250.  Succeed in all three and then choose to ask no one to the meteor shower to unlock Ending 42.
    • I'm not sure how this drink unlocks.  I suspect you need to view Endings 13, 41, and 42, or at least some of the events associated with them.  These are all on Joy's route.
  • A Glass of Curse
    • Unlocks a special event chain featuring events 239-241.  Succeed in all three and then choose to ask no one to the meteor shower to unlock Ending 18.  I believe you will also get some extra dialogue if you choose to ask Aaravi to the meteor shower, though this doesn't officially count for anything.
    • You unlock this after viewing Ending 40.  Viewing Ending 41 might also work.
  • Doom Perignon
    • Unlocks a special event chain featuring events 251-253.  Succeed in all three and then choose to ask no one to the meteor shower to unlock Ending 16.
    • I'm not sure how this drink unlocks, but I suspect it has to do with viewing some events featuring the character this ending is associated with.  They all take place at the manor.  This does include events 61-66, but you do not need to have seen all six of these.  I know this because I'd missed event 63.
  • The Best
    • Unlocks a special event chain featuring events 245-247.  Succeed in all three and ask no one to view the meteor shower to unlock Ending 17.
    • You need to view Ending 42 to unlock this drink in the meta-shop.
  • Pizza Drink
    • Only available on your final weekend.  After drinking this, you'll see two random events chosen from events 254-259.  Succeed in at least one and choose to watch the meteor shower alone to unlock Ending 20.
  • The Worst Timeline
    • Unlocks a special event chain featuring events 273-275.  Succeed in all three and ask Calculester to view the meteor shower to unlock Ending 43.
    • To unlock, fail on any of the events numbered 24-26.  They are all on Calculester's route and can appear at any location.  They involve his ant terrarium.
  • Cursed Bearew
    • Only available on your final weekend.  After drinking this, you will see events 263 and 264 in a random order.  Succeed in at least one of them and then choose to ask no one to the meteor shower to unlock extra variations in Endings 1-20 and some other things in the gallery.  If you fail both events, nothing will unlock.
    • You need to fail at event 167 to unlock this drink.  This event is available on Calculester, Milo, and Joy's routes and appears at the Scout HQ.  Because there are only two possible events that can occur after failing at this one, this event can only appear on the final day or possibly the evening of the day before.  In practice, I have only seen this event trigger on the final day.

Drinks which are only available in multiplayer games are as follows:

  • The Equalizer
  • AB Blood
  • The Full Moon
  • Joe Crow
  • Spell Shake
  • Community Punch
  • All Brians
  • The Royale
  • Spirits
  • Old Chum's Champagne
  • Double Gift

Most of these are available in a two-player game, but some require at least a three-player game.

Achievements

You might find you're missing a few achievements even if you get every ending, view every outcome of every event, purchase everything from the meta-shop, choose every item, drink every drink, and unlock everything under 'special stuff'.   This is a list of those achievements.  If they're associated with a specific ending, details are listed in the ending section.

  • XOXO: associated with Ending 19.
  • Fate Defiant: not associated with any specific ending.  Receive a prediction in-game and then defy it.
    • On Milo or Joy's route, view event 154.  It's randomly shown at the Scout HQ, and you'll recognise it because it asks you to predict the weather.
    • You'll need to fail at the first option of this event.  Keep your [Smart] skill below your [Creative] stat.  The Scout HQ raises that second stat, so this should only be tricky if the event shows up on your first day.
    • Having failed at the event, successfully end the run with a date.
      • I first tried this with Ending 20 because it's the easiest ending to succeed at with little to no preparation, but it didn't work.
      • I succeeded with Milo's ending.  I drank The Spook on my last trip to the bar and spent time with Milo at the campfire throughout the game, just to make sure he wouldn't reject me despite failing on some events to get new outcomes.
      • I'd heard that the achievement might require you to succeed at every event following 154.  I was concerned that might be why Ending 20 didn't work, so I tried not to fail any events on my Milo run.  I messed up on one, but it didn't matter.  So you can fail at least one event and not lose the achievement.  Ending 20 might have failed because it was a special ending or because I'd failed at more than one event on the way.
  • Updated Wardrobe: play the game with the characters in costumes.
    • Either purchase extra costumes as DLC (using real money) or purchase the Fairytale Costumes pack from the meta-shop for 1000 memories.
    • Turn the option for the costumes on in the Customise Game menu and play through the game once.
    • If you turn multiple costumes on at once, I believe each character gets a random costume for each scene.
  • Pure Loyalty: Drink the Loyalty Lemonade at the first opportunity and then go to the same stat-raising location for every turn.
    • I achieved this in a long game and the achievement unlocked in the final week.  I have not tested it on a shorter run or in multiplayer.
    • I did try choosing every location in-game without first drinking the lemonade and it didn't work.  Since the achievement has a graphic relating to the drink, I believe the drink is essential.
  • Ultimate Teamwork:In a multiplayer game, drink the community punch and successfully have the player characters end up together.
    • Having the player characters end up together requires spending time together at the love log twice, which triggers events 276-279.  All four of those events are success/failure and which option is which is obvious.  There are no stat checks.  Succeed at all four events and choose to ask no one to watch the meteor shower.
  • Selfcest: this achievement appears to be bugged at the moment.  I believe that you need to unlock the Love Log version of Ending 8 and have a character drink the All Brians on the same run.
    • EDIT: I emailed the devs, and they told me that, to unlock Selfcest, you need to drink the All Brians and then have your two Brians sit together on the Love Log.  As of June 2021, this isn't possible.  The drink isn't available in the first week, and if you drink it in the second week, your two Brians have no opportunities to sit on the Love Log.  I told them that and they agreed and said it would be fixed in the next update.  It seems like someone changed the parameters for the All Brians without realising it would break this achievement.
    • EDIT: This achievement is now fixed. I was able to earn it in October 2021.
  • Overkill: end a run with all your stats over 100.
    • The easiest (and probably only) way to do this is with the Spook drink.
    • You unlock the Spook drink in the meta-shop after completing 100 runs.  Buy it and drink it in-game to make every stat 99.
    • With your stats this high, you cannot fail most outcomes even if you pick the option associated with the lower stat, so your stats will keep rising.
    • You might accidentally miss the achievement if you miss raising a stat or two through bad luck or if you've drunk something which makes locations or outcomes lower your stats instead of raising them.
  • Playing by Heart: reach a successful ending without being able to see your stats.
    • To hide your stats, drink the Ski Mask or the Redacted.
    • Calculester's normal ending might be the easiest one to reach without being able to see your stats.  Make sure you sit with him at the campfire and drink Love Potion No. 9 to keep your hearts high.

Endings

1

Do not qualify for any endings and choose not to invite anyone to watch the meteor shower.

2-7

Invite each of Aaravi, Calculester, Dahlia, Damien, Joy, and Milo to watch the meteor shower and be rejected.

8

Qualify for an ending - i.e., you would be successful if you invited someone to watch the meteor shower - but choose not to ask anyone.

You can unlock multiple variations of this image.  To do so, you will need to play a medium or full multiplayer game and have your two characters sit together on the 'love log' at each campfire event.  This will unlock a series of three events, for which the only options are success or failure.  You'll need to succeed at all three and choose not to ask anyone to the meteor shower.  Seeing at least one of these variations counts as one of the 25 secret endings.

9-14

Successfully ask Aaravi, Calculester, Dahlia, Damien, Joy, and Milo to watch the meteor shower.  Affection is gained by succeeding at an event or at the campfire, or by drinking Love Potion no. 9.   Without the love potion, I've found that five successful outcomes are usually sufficient.  That means either succeeding at five events or succeeding at 3 events and at the campfire twice.  Specific stats are not required for special endings (Endings 15-44 and the Love Logs Ending of 8), and special endings override normal endings.

  • Aaravi: requires no low stats.
  • Calculester: only cares about affection levels.
  • Dahlia: requires at least one high stat.
  • Damien: cares about Boldness and Fun.
    • On a short, single-player run, Boldness must be at least 12 and Fun must be at least 8.
  • Joy: cares about Smarts, Boldness, and Charm.
  • Milo: cares about Charm and Creativity.

I tested multiple times to find Damien's exact stats, but cannot be arsed to do so for any other characters.  I did test both Joy and Milo to figure out which stats they care about, but did not find the exact values required.  I may or may not do this at some future point.

15

  • This ending is associated with a specific side character: [Batniss].
  • Unlock the Molotov drink and purchase it in the meta-shop.  It doesn't matter which route you start on.
    • Unfortunately, I did not record which run caused this drink to unlock.  I suspect it has to do with encountering some of the random events involving the character this ending is associated with.
    • There is an event featuring this character on each main character's route, numbered 55-60 in the gallery.  These scenes can randomly unlock at the Dome.
    • This character appears in other random scenes apart from those six.  It is possible that Molotov is associated with seeing a specific one of those scenes, or in seeing X amount of scenes featuring this character.
  • Drink the Molotov in-game to unlock a chain of events.
  • The stats associated with each choice in this chain are as follows:

    1. [Fun][Charm]
    2. [Charm][Fun]
    3. [Bold][Fun]
  • Having made a successful choice in each of those three events, choose to ask no one to watch the meteor shower.

16

  • This ending is associated with a specific side character: [Jerry].
  • Unlock the Doom Perignon drink and purchase it in the meta-shop.  It doesn't matter which route you start on.
    • Unfortunately, I did not record which run caused this drink to unlock.  I suspect it has to do with encountering some of the random events involving the character this ending is associated with.
    • There is an event featuring this character on each main character's route, numbered 61-66 in the gallery.  These scenes can randomly unlock at the manor.  I know that you do not need to have viewed all of these to unlock the Doom Perignon because I hadn't seen 63.
    • This character appears in other random scenes apart from those six.  It is possible that Doom Perignon is associated with seeing a specific one of those scenes, or in seeing X amount of scenes featuring this character.
  • Drink the Doom Perignon in-game to unlock a chain of events.
  • The stats associated with each choice in this chain are as follows:

    1. [Smart][Creative]
    2. [Fun][Creative]
    3. [Fun][Charm]
  • Having made a successful choice in each of those three events, choose to ask no one to watch the meteor shower.
  • There is an achievement associated with these events.  To unlock it, you will need to view both successful outcomes for each choice, so you need to complete this plotline at least twice.

17
  • Complete Ending 42 to unlock The Best in the meta-shop.
  • Purchase The Best from the meta-shop and drink it in-game to unlock a chain of events.  It doesn't matter what route you start on.
  • The stats associated with each choice in this chain are as follows:

    1. [Bold][Smart]
    2. [Charm][Creative]
    3. [Bold][Charm]
  • Having made a successful choice in each of those three events, choose to ask no one to watch the meteor shower.

18
  • Complete ending 40 to unlock A Glass of Curse in the meta-shop.
  • Purchase a Glass of Curse from the meta-shop and drink it in-game.  It doesn't matter what route you start on.
    • I explicitly tested this because it does seem like it would.
  • The next event will be the start of a three-event chain.  Stats for each option are as follows:
    1. [Charm][Fun]
    2. [Fun][Charm]
    3. [Smart][Fun]
  • After successfully completing those three events, choose not to ask anyone to watch the meteor shower.

19
  • When gossiping at the campfire, type in "Moss Mann".  It doesn't matter what the prompt says, i.e., it doesn't need to specifically be asking for a name.
  • This starts a chain of three events (260-262), so it doesn't work if you have fewer than three events remaining before the end of the game.
  • The stats associated with the three events are as follows:
    1. [Fun][Bold]
    2. [Creative][Fun]
    3. [Smart][Creative]
  • After making 3 successful choices, choose to ask no one to the meteor shower.

The XOXO achievement is associated with this ending.  To unlock it, you need to see all of the possible permutations of the ending text by viewing all possible combinations of successful choices.  There are eight:
  • 111
  • 112
  • 121
  • 122
  • 211
  • 212
  • 221
  • 222

20
  • Unlock the Pizza Drink in the meta-shop and purchase it.
    • Unfortunately, I did not track how this drink unlocks.
    • There are multiple events involving pizza delivery.  I suspect you need to view some amount of them.  I don't think you need to see any one specific event.
  • Drink the Pizza Drink in-game.  You can only do this in the last week.
  • Your last two events will be randomly chosen from events 254-259.  You will see two of these events even if you fail the first choice.  The events are not linked to locations.
  • In-game, you can identify which event you're seeing by which background character is associated with it.  Stats are as follows:
    • Character: [Magic Tree Mike].  Stats: [Smart][Charm]
    • Character: [Camp Rival Camp].  Stats: [Smart][Charm]
    • Character: [Baba Yaga].  Stats: [Charm][Bold]
