This guide is for Princess Maker 2: Refine on Steam. I have not tested it in any other editions of the game. I assume you are generally familiar with the game.
NB. I know my tables are squidged. If changing my blog-settings doesn't fix it, I'll replace them with images of tables from Excel instead.
Ending Types
In this game, endings are triggered by having specific stats and occur in this order of priority;
- Princess of Darkness overrides all other endings if qualified for. This ending requires a Fighting reputation of at least 300, a Magical reputation of at least 500, and at least 500 Sin.
- The next highest priority are the Sinful endings. These require morality between 1-29 and at least 250 sin, or morality of 0 and at least 100 sin.
- The art endings are the next highest priority and are triggered if Art is the highest of the general skills. The general skills are those in the box on the lower right; Decorum, Art, Speech, Cooking CLN/LDR and Personal.
- If the daughter does not qualify for any of the above endings, the ending type is determined by reputation. General endings occur if all reputations are within 50 points of one another. If the gap between the highest and lowest reputation is greater than 50, the highest reputation determines the ending type.
So, to get a Fighting ending, we need less than 100 sin, Art to be lower than at least one other general skill, and at least one reputation to be more than 50 points lower than fighting.
Fighter Rep Endings
As above, sin must be below 100, Art has to be lower than at least one other general skill, and Fighter has to be the highest reputation, with a gap of over 50 points between fighting and whichever reputation has the lowest value.
Note that, for the Hero (Warrior) ending the key point is that sensitivity must be greater than both faith and intelligence. For the general, the opposite must be the case.
For most job endings, there are three potential variations. One where the daughter is bad at the job, one where she's okay, and one where she's great. That's what that last row refers to.
On Steam, obtaining these endings unlock these achievements:
- Hero (Warrior): In His Footsteps.
- General: Leader of the War.
- Officer: Trusted by the Royal Family.
- Knight: The Knighthood.
- Instructor: Fist of Fury.
- Soldier: For the King
- Bounty Hunter: You can run, but you can't hide!
- Mercenary: My Sword for a Hire (sic).
We're aiming to obtain all of these endings with a single playthrough, with minimal backtracking.
Goal Stats
We're aiming to finish the game with these statistics, which we can then manipulate to trigger different endings:
- Intelligence: 300-499. We can then raise this over 500 with items.
- Elegance: Max 99. We can then raise this to 100-150 and over 150 with items.
- Morality: 600. We can drop this to 0 using the Demon Pendant.
- Faith: As close to 400 as possible without going under.
- Sensitivity: As close to 399 as possible without going over. We can raise this over 500 with items.
- Sin: Max 99. We can drop this by donating to the Church.
- Speech: Min 70.
- Art: Lowest general skill.
- Combat Skill: Min 85.
- Fighter Reputation: Min 421, but not too far above this. Once your reputation is built up a little, entering and exiting the town might trigger a challenge. Accepting and winning this challenge adds 10 points to this reputation while refusing drops it by 15 points. We can use this to fine-tune our reputation. We can also change it with equipment and drop it by selling Royal Swords.
- Magical Reputation: Maximum 420. If Magical Reputation is higher than Fighter Reputation, then it's your Magical Reputation that will go up or down based on accepting or refusing challenges, not Fighter. Theoretically, you can trigger and refuse random challenges to drop this reputation if it surpasses your Fighter rep.
- Social Rep: Maximum of 250. We can drop this by 15 points by speaking to the Clown at the Palance once our Speech is over 40.
- Housework Rep: For some endings, we need to lower the Fighter Rep to below 310. We need Housework to be lower than this. Try to give yourself as much leeway as possible. I ended the game with 303 Housework Rep, which was enough wiggle room to keep Fighter as my highest. You cannot lower this reputation.
These stats aren't build to qualify for marriage to the Prince so I didn't bother talking to him every month. If you did want to go for that, you'd need to keep your elegance below 100 (for Instructor) and be ready to raise it over 250 with items. You'd also need over 200 charisma, which is fairly easy to get by trading faith in the desert and/or with items. My file - step-by-step guide below - ends with 159 charisma, which could easily be raised again by working in the church for another 20 Faith and trading it for Glamour in the desert. As long as morality is at least 600 (if you want to see the best endings) or 30 (if you just want to get the endings regardless of quality) it doesn't matter how much higher it gets. Working at the Church only raises morality and faith and decreases sin, so you can be fairly confident of not affecting anything you don't intend to by raising faith and trading it in this way. Strength, Stamina, and Glamour are good 'dump' stats for losses or gains because they won't change the endings.
If you want to, you can stop reading the guide now and use the previous two sections to get there by yourself. Alternatively, you could skip my step-by-step guide below, get the stats yourself, and then consult the endings list right at the bottom for what to adjust.
Step-By-Step Walkthrough
- This is how I achieved the goal stats and put myself in a position to achieve every Fighter Rep ending.
- Set your daughter's birthday to the 21st of March. This gives your daughter Mars as a patron deity. Mars gives the second-best starting combat stats (after Sol), but he awards 100 morality after the War God is defeated, which is useful to us. Sol would award 100 elegance which would mess up some endings.
- Choose blood type A. This gives your daughter +3 morality every month.
- I always bought a doll as a birthday gift because I usually needed the stress relief.
- I saved every month in a new slot, starting over at the beginning when I ran out of slots. This let me rewind the last 10 months, just in case anything went wrong. I'll tell you when to make the three important saves at the end of the game, in December 1217, January 1218, and February 1218.
Maps
Northern Mountain. All chests are marked with black circles. To access the first treasure chest - at the point marked '1' - you'll need to get onto the bridge above it and fall off. You'll be able to see where the treasure chest is when you're on the bridge. From there, go down then up to get the second treasure chests. To reach the final chest, get back onto the bridge, go all the way across, and then take the ladders down. The point marked '2' is where you will find the Ket Shi if you have a Cat's Eye to trade, which is irrelevant for this guide. Point 3 is where you'll find the third bandit after defeating the first two, and point 4 is where you'll go to defeat the War God.
Western Desert. All chests marked with black circles. At point '1', you'll meet a young dragon and will need to either pay a toll or defeat him. Point '2' is where you'll trade the spirit ring. Point '3' is where you can meet a Ket Shi if you have a Cat's Eye, which is irrelevant to this guide. Point '4' is the cave in the desert. Camping outside of here will allow you to trade your faith to Lucifon. You can trade in the Demon Pendant by entering the cave.
Eastern Woodlands. There are multiple holes to fall into here. Those are indicated with arrows. You'll need to use the holes marked '2' to reach a treasure chest, and fall into the one at point '3' to reach two more. The black X marks another hole, which brings you back to the previous mud pond. Avoid that one. It's marked by bubbles. Point '1' marks a place you can camp to meet fairies who increase your cooking skill, but we won't be using those. We will be meeting the fairies at point '5', which is also where you can trade in the unicorn horn. Point '4' is where you can meet the first bandit. If he's not there the first time you enter, you can exit and enter again until he appears.
Southern Lake. I've marked a recommended path in red. Treasure chests are in black. Point '1' is where you can meet dancing fairies and point '2' is cooking fairies. I don't use either in this guide. Point '2' is also where you can meet the second bandit. If you hang around on the island long enough, she'll appear. To get onto this island, you'll need to follow an invisible path through the water. It loops around the island. You might have to feel around a bit to find your way.

Endings from March 1218
These were my stats on March of 1218. Sensitivity is a little high because I bought her a doll for her birthday, which added 5 points to it. For each of the endings below, begin by loading this save file.
General
- End the game. You just need to click on the 'Schedule' button and the ending runs automatically.
Hero (Warrior)
- We need to raise Sensitivity over Intelligence and Faith.
- The Spiky Dress - available from the Tailor - raises Sensitivity by 40 but lowers Morality by 30.
- Poetry books raise Sensitivity by 12 points each, so 8-10 or should do it.
- End the game.
Instructor
- We need to drop our Fighter Reputation to somewhere between 381-419.
- Because my Fighter Reputation was only just over 420, I just needed to trigger a challenge by moving in and out of the town (literally just left-click on the town icon then right-click to go back) and refusing it to drop my Rep by 10.
- Unequipping the Valkyria sword lowers the stats which contribute to your Rep and, as such, lowers your Rep.
- If you need a larger drop, you could sell the Dragon Fang or one or more Royal Swords.
- End the game.
Officer
- We need to drop our Fighter Reputation to somewhere between 381-419 and raise Elegance to between 100-150.
- Removing my Valkyria sword and equipping a Royal Sword instead did both.
- Alternatively, you can drop your Fighter Reputation by refusing a challenge, selling the Dragon Fang, or selling a Royal Sword.
- End the game.
Soldier
- We need to drop our Fighter Reputation below 310. Note that Fighting must still be our highest reputation.
- Taking my weapon and armour off dropped both my Fighter Rep and Magic Rep. Selling a Royal Sword and refusing a challenge dropped my Fighter Rep to 304, 1 point above Housekeeping.
- Since winning a challenge and refusing a challenge change your Fighter Rep by different amounts (+10 or -15 respectively) you can use a combination of these to get to the right number. For example, if my Housekeeping Rep had been a little higher, I could have won two challenges and refused one more, leaving me with a Fighter Rep of 309.
- Different swords change the skills which contribute to your Fighter Rep, which might give you a fraction more leeway.
- If your Magic Rep is above your Fighter Rep then it's Magic Rep you'll lose by refusing a challenge, so keep doing that if you need to lower it.
- If, by any chance, your Social Rep is too high - e.g., within 50 points of your Fighter Rep - speak to the Clown at the palace to lower it by 15 points. Alternatively, selling a Royal Sword lowers both Social Rep and Fighter Rep.
- End the game.
Knight
- We need to drop our Fighter Reputation below 380 and raise Elegance over 150.
- Removing the Valkyria sword and replacing it with a Royal Sword dropped my Fighter Rep sufficiently.
- Wearing the Silk Dress from the Tailor raises your Elegance by 40. If you need a further boost, teacups will raise your Elegance by 10 points each.
- End the game.
Bounty Hunter
Load your February 1218 save. My stats looked like this.
- For the Bounty Hunter ending, we need to drop our Morality below 30 and raise Sensitivity over 500.
- Talk to the Clown at the palace to raise Sensitivity (and drop Social Rep) by 15 points.
- Schedule Errantry in the Desert and a vacation in the mountains for your last two weeks.
- In the desert, enter the Demon cave you've been camping outside of and accept the Demon's first offer in exchange for the Demon Pendant. This will drop your morality to 0.
- The mountain vacation will raise Sensitivity by 10.
- Buy a Poetry book for her birthday and speak to the Clown again for more boosts to Sensitivity.
- Buy poetry books until Sensitivity is over 500.
- End the game.
Mercenary
Load your December 2017 save. My stats looked like this.
From December 31st
- Buy 10 dolls and then sell all 10. This raises stress to 400. Don't buy and sell them one at a time or they'll just cancel out. We need high stress to be arrested.
- Remove your weapon and armour. Do not replace them with anything. This means they won't be contributing to our reputations when they are lowered and we can re-equip them to bring our Fighter Rep back up.
- Schedule Errantry in the Desert once and then the Woodlands twice.
- In the Desert, exchange your Demon Pendant for Circe's Charm ("evil power") which will drop your Morality to 0.
- Having lost all morals, spend the rest of your time attacking villagers. In the Desert, head to the exit and attack any humans you meet. In the Woodlands, don't bother moving away from the entrance, just stand there and attack people.
- This month should end with your daughter being arrested and her reputations dropping. If not, schedule 3 more errantrys anywhere and continue to mug people. If she's not arrested at the end of February, reset and try again.
From January 31st
- We now need to raise her fighter rep above 210. Putting the Valkyrie Sword and Mythril Armour back on was enough for me. If you need a greater boost, you'll need to farm for challenges and successfully beat people to gain 10 points a time. Since your actual stats haven't changed, this should be quite manageable.
- Donate at the church until your sin is below 0.
- For the last two weeks, schedule Errantry at the Woodlands so you can dance with fairies and lower her stress. The other week can just be a vacation. This isn't strictly necessary, it's just a nice thing to do, and you need to make the time pass somehow.
- End the game.
