Quest Title | Unlocked | Completed |
---|---|---|
Wayward Daughters | Plot Related, Automatic. | Plot Related, Automatic. Spoiler: [You will not see this quest completed because its end is the end of the game.] |
#1 Dathan's Class | Plot Related, Automatic. | Plot Related, Automatic. |
#2 A Family Vanishes | Stop by the Portran's Farm after meeting Eva and Kris. It's just south of secret room #5 on the world map. | You cannot complete this until the final dungeon. Speak to Portran in Divide 1. He's invisible until you're right in front of him. If you walk around the rooms hugging the walls, you can't miss him. |
#3 A Farm Girl's Letter | Fellip's Farm, just west of secret room #5. Speak to Gerda. | Deliver the letter to Tomma in Peatfall. Note that you will be thrown into an enemy-filled area after doing so. You can cast egress to immediately get back to town if you need to, but you'll only be able to access a limited section until you complete Quest #5. |
#4 Get out of Jail | Automatic, after completing Quest #3. | Plot Related, Automatic. |
#5 Earn a Reward | Automatic, after completing Quest #4. | Defeat the Bandit King in the house in Eastern Hills. |
#6 Another Wayward Daughter | Speak to the owner of the pub in Peatfall. It's in the harbour. | Same resolution as Q #9. |
#7 The Darkened Lighthouse | As you speak to people in Clifton. I think it may be impossible to miss this one. | Complete the lighthouse dungeon then return to the pub. |
#8 The Defrauded Armorer | Speak to the Armourer in Dorgate. | Complete the Falmount Manor dungeon then return to the armourer. |
#9 Missing in Action | Accept the job when Granny Norwood offers it. | Find Granny's servant in Landow. You're looking for a trapdoor. |
#10 Lost Statue | Automatically with Q #9. | After finding Granny's servant, check the cell next door for a hidden room. |
Find all the Secret Rooms | Automatic | There are 27 on normal mode. I cannot write a guide better than this one, so I won't try. When you first enter, you'll see 1 of 30, but that seems to be a mistake. There are 30 secret rooms in other games by Aldorlea, so perhaps they just copied a bit of code over and forgot to edit this part. |

Shadow Hearts Covenant: Blood Types
In Shadow Hearts: Covenant there's a door that will only open for people with a specific blood-type (or, rather, if you open it with someone else, the treasure will disappear). There's a little puzzle you can do to find out their blood types, and the results are as follows.
Karin - type A.
Lucia - type B.
Yuri - type O.
Joachim - type A.
Gepetto - type AB.
In Japan, blood types are used as personality markers, kind of like how horoscopes are in the West. So it makes sense that this door is in an area with a zodiac puzzle! The wiki article, here, has a chart listing the traits individuals of each blood type are supposed to have.
Like Karin and Joachim, I'm type A. I know this because I donate blood, and my twelfth donation is coming up soon. Save a life - if you're in the UK, you can make an appointment here.
Anyway, type A individuals are supposedly earnest, creative, sensible, reserved, patient, and responsible. Our worst traits are being fastidious, overearnest, stubborn, and tense. I'm also a Leo (creative, noble, loyal) born in the year of the earth dragon (1988), which makes me magnanimous, stately, vigorous, strong, self-assured, proud, noble, direct, dignified, and passionate but also tactless, arrogant, imperious, tyrannical, demanding, rebellious, intolerant, dogmatic, violent, and impetuous. I never realised how many traits Leos and Dragons supposedly shared until I went and looked that up here.
Horoscopes are worked out based on which constellation the sun appeared to be when you were born. Apparently, where the other planets - including the moon - where at the time also have an effect on your personality. For instance, in my case, the moon was also in Leo, so I get a double whammy. The moon supposedly affects how you deal with things internally, while, for instance, Mars indicates your temper and Venus is how you love. The constellation that appeared on the horizon at the time of your birth indicates how you initially come across. That changes every two and half hours or so. Your midheaven is the sign directly above you when you were born, and that indicates how you go after your goals.
I should make it clear at this point that I don't think any of this is literally true. There's no evidence for any of it. That said, it is really fun to think about it, and if you enjoy writing, it can be a fun way to make up characters. For instance, say you have someone who has all their planets in Taurus, so they have all the traits of that sign - patient, sensual, etc. But then they have just one planet - maybe Mars - in Scorpio. You end up with a loving, down-to-earth person with a cold and spiteful temper.
You can cast your own birth chart here if you want to have a look.
I don't know nearly as much about Chinese New Year signs. I know there's also an elemental aspect, which changes every twelve years. In other words, everyone born in my twelve-year 'cycle' is Earth. Dragons born in 2000 are Metal, while those born in 2012 are water.
Incidentally, this means Yuri was born in the year of the Earth Ox, while Alice Elliot was born in the year of the Water Snake. Karin is also an Earth Ox. You can look up your sign and element here.
Going back to blood. AB or O basically indicate extra 'bits' that can be in blood. 'O' blood has no bits in it. A blood has A bits, and B blood has B bits. AB has both A and B bits.
Bodies will attack the bits they don't recognise. So, if you give a transfusion of AB blood to an O person, their body would reject the blood because it would think the AB bits were a virus. That's why O blood is the universal donor - you can give O blood to anyone with any blood type, because there are no bits that look like viruses in there. People with AB blood are the universal recipient - they can have any kind of blood given to them.
Unfortunately, this means that people with O blood can only take donations of O blood. That's why other types of donors can still be useful. My A blood can go to anyone with A or AB blood, freeing up the O blood for someone who really needs it.
To complicate things further, positive or negative refers to the presence of rhesus particles, another bit that can be mistaken for a virus. Positive means you have them, negative means you don't. I'm A positive, so if I ever need a donation, my body won't attack blood with rhesus particles in it. It will attack blood with B bits.
This is where people with O negative blood get the short end of the stick again. They can't accept O positive blood, because, again, their body will think the rhesus bits are viruses and try to destroy them.
The more you know!

Shadow Hearts Covenant: Straw Millionaire Guide
The straw millionaire sidequest begins on the wall of Southampton. There, you will meet a man who gives you a piece of dried straw and suggests that you trade up. The following diagram indicates potential trades, which are further detailed in my (currently in-progress) item/sidequest no-spoilers guide.
The best prizes are the Nemesis Fan, which is an ultimate weapon, or 100,000 cash, if you don't want to use that character. It's also possible to end the quest with a good but incomparable prize, and those trades are marked in red. I highly suggest avoiding them. They will be marked with a warning in my guide.

Subquests and Extras in .Hack//Outbreak
In possibly the most annoying move ever, they switched triangle and circle for this game - menu and cancel - and there doesn't seem to be any way to switch them back. Why would they do that?
Again, I'm not including anything you can find simply by reading the board.
Areas on the DVD
Note that the Ladies' Mail contains the Mumyn Lei spell, which you can use to put things to sleep. Things like Goblins.
More Areas with Trade Items
Rare Trades
Alicia - Cat's Hat for 3-Floor Tower.
Benoit - Yoshida for Boxed Lunch.
Cyan - Gimme Life for Rouge Fragment.
Flare - Cat's Gloves for Magnolia Miso.
Fool - Cat's Boots for Scent of Gero.
Stare - Cat's Armour for Doll Amulet.
Teria - Thunder Dad for Maiden's Plot.
Waffle - Dreams or Yore for Field's Deed.
I found it a lot easier than I expected to track down the people I needed to trade with. If you've spoken to them before, they'll appear in Ryu Book III and you'll be able to tell if they're online or not. If so, they're usually in the same server you are. If they're not online, try logging in and out and check again. I generally found one or two were online after each dungeon, so I just ran around town for a bit and traded a few things, then went and got the next few items.

.Hack//Sign Ghosts in .Hack//Outbreak (Spoiler Free)
Throughout .Hack//Outbreak you can see fragments of the anime
series .hack//sign (assuming that you've seen all the scenes at Delta Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground in Mutation). Simply go to these places, in the following order,
and talk to the ghosts. You'll get items for this, but I'm not listing them. You will get several Golden Grunties (permanently raises HP by 30) as well as several excellent healing items. All of the places are root towns, so I'll just list the server rather than specifying that every time.
I have to tell you, this is a lot more fun once you've seen .Hack//Sign!

Subquests & Extras in .Hack//Infection
As a general rule, it's pretty hard to miss stuff. Just keep reading the board and your emails.
Time Trial
Use Delta Chronicling Pagan Sunny Demon. Use a speed charm and Fairy's Orbs, and you should only run into one or two battles.
Key Words on the DVD
Delta Hideous Organ Market Scaffold - Statue has Ice Bar, Rainbow Card, and Grunt Doll.
Delta Voluptous Her Remnant - Statue contains Kagayuzen, Grunt Doll, and Yellow Candy. You can also find the Rusty Nails here. They're useful for data draining low level monsters, since they have negative attack, and can hit without killing.
Delta Dog Dancing Passionate Tri Pansy - Ceramic Helm, Yellow Candy, and Rainbow Card.
Areas to Go Back To
I've made a post on this before, I think.
Sometimes, you'll reach a key area - a boss fight or such like - before reaching the Zeit statue. And then the game automatically pulls you out. And then you have to go back into the area and right back down into the dungeon for the items (or, at least, I do, because I hate knowing that they're there, and I haven't got them).
These are the areas that they yank you out of;
Delta Boundless Corrupted Fort Walls - Statue has Fishing Gloves and Rainbow Card x 2.
Delta Closed Oblivious Twin Hills - Statue has Wyrm Scale, Grunt Doll, and Rainbow Card.
Delta Plenteous Smiling Hypha
Delta Putrid Hot-blooded Scaffold - pulls you out when you pick up the remedy, which is in the south-west corner of the final floor. Get the statue first, and you won't have to go back for anything; Fireman's Coat, Rainbow Card, Grunt Doll.
Delta Buried Pagan Fiery Sands - Iron Anklet, Rainbow Card, Grunt Doll.

Winning Your First Blitzball Match
...because it's a matter of pride, dammit.
In Final Fantasy X, it is possible to win your first match against the Luca Goers. This is the easiest way I've found to do it, that least relies on luck. Of course, if you do get lucky, you may want to take that goal shot.
The general point of this method is to keep the score nil-nil for as long as possible, and use the Jecht Shot to score.
The first thing you need to do is get the Jecht Shot on the S.S. Winno. If I recall correctly, you need to attempt this as part of the storyline, so just save first, and make sure you get it. It's not too tricky.
Now, for the actual match. During the first half, don't try to score. Get the ball, and keep it on your own side (hit triangle while in possession of the ball, and change your movement to manual). Your goals here are to keep the score nil-nil, and level Tidus up to three, so he can use techs in the second half. Keep Tidus way back by your own goal, and have him pass to the defenders to gain exp. You'll get three for each successful pass. You only need one or two, since he starts with some exp.
At half-time, equip Tidus with the Jecht Shot. You have three minutes before Tidus leaves, and your only goal is to have Tidus score, just once. You can take out two defenders with the Jecht shot, so it's a lot easier. Whatever you're doing at the three minute mark will be interrupted, so get your shots in early.
For the last two minutes, see how it's going. If you've got a big lead, have fun with it, if not, play defensively.
A fair amount of this first match depends on luck. If you get unlucky, it's easy to lose, but with a few lucky breaks like I had on my last match, you can get the score to 4-2 before Tidus leaves. Like I did. Ha! Bite me, Bickson. And then I had Wakka score, just because.

Breath of Fire II - Wildcat Cafe
Wildcat Cafe is a very strange subquest in Breath of Fire II.
You'll first need to find the cave by the waterfall, southwest of the Witch's Tower and west of Simafort. Once inside, read all the signs and follow the directions. Your party will end up replacing their weapons and armour with napkins, plates, and forks, and rubbing salt and pepper on themselves. Finally, choose "rare".
Your party will now have to face a battle with a Wildcat Chef. Even without your weapons, this doesn't have to be difficult. I used Ryu's FireDragon, and had Katt and Sten attack. Nina didn't even get a turn.
Afterwards, follow the chef into the bar. He'll ask you some questions. Answer no, then yes, and he'll teach someone the ChopChop skill, which is very useful later, for levelling. I chose Katt, personally. Any other answers will result in a raise of 16hp for all characters.

Breath of Fire: Mogu's Dig Spots
In Breath of Fire, there are certain places on the world map where Mogu can dig down to find treasures.
Northeast of Camlon
You can obtain Karn's Doof form here.
East of the Stone Golem/Northeast of Tuntar
Here, you'll find an A.Ptn, an L.Ptn, a V.Ptn and a clog.
Island north of Winlan
Here, you'll find a V.Ptn, an S.Ptn and a Sash. Nina must be able to fly to reach it.
Spyre
The entrance.
South of Spring/Northeast of Carmen
You can find the HeroBW here (Bo's best weapon, if I recall correctly).
Southeast of Scande
You'll be able to reach this point after Nina learns how to fly. You'll find an S.Ptn, an A.Ptn, an L.Ptn, a MystCW (possibly Mogu's best weapon), a StarSH, an AgileHT, a LoveHT, and a Life2 here.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Forms
In each Breath of Fire game, Ryu is able to transform into a dragon, or a variety of Dragons. His forms from the first game are obtained as follows;
Temple South of Tuntar
You will be able to reach this temple after the Stone Robot sacrifices himself. Ryu will be forced to go into the Dragon Temple and fight alone. It shouldn't be too tough. After the battle, Ryu will gain the forms of Snow, Thunder and Flame Dragon.
Temple South of Hidden Fort
You'll be able to reach this temple any time after making your way through the hidden fort. However, you won't be able to actually enter until you've found the Rod5, in Tunlan, and fished up the Dragon Sword from the well to the West of Agua.
From the northern side of the Hidden Fort, go west and follow the mountains around. Once inside, you'll find a healing spring and a marble2, before battling Bain. The Flame Dragon will do 115hp of damage a turn, the Snow Dragon will do 100 points, and the Thunder Dragon will do 130hp. Use the Thunder Dragon.
Bain has a lot of hit points, but not many attacks. After this battle, Ryu will gain the Fire Dragon, Bolt Dragon, and Gold Dragon forms.
Temple North of Gust
To reach this temple, you need to be able to fly. From Gust, fly a little north until you come to the strange looking castle thing on an island in a lake. You need the Dragon Armour (which you can fish up in the duckpond in Spring, once the water thaws) in order to enter.
Avian is a little tricky to defeat. The Fire Dragon seems to hurt him most, with 300 or damage a turn. Afterwards, you'll gain Rudra.
Cleansing Waters
The final temple is in the cave south of Romero, where you found the Cleansing Waters. Head right down to the bottom, and, once you have the gills, you'll be able to walk right into the water.
If you have Rudra and the Dragon Helmet (which can be found by fishing in the well to the south of Arad), Agni will be unlocked. Agni is necessary to achieve the good ending of the game. There is no battle here.
